Our Bakery Apprenticeship Scheme will give you all the skills you need to go from total beginner to fully trained Baker – even if you've never baked a loaf in your life.

Working in a Sainsbury's bakery means being part of a close-knit specialised team whose valued skills play a vital role in every store's success; 90% of customers can't resist our delicious fresh bread when they pay us a visit. What's more, the job comes with a great sense of pride – imagine the satisfaction of creating delicious foods from basic ingredients and then seeing them fly off the shelves.

To get involved, you need GCSEs (grade C or above) or equivalent in Maths and English and be happy to work flexible shifts, including early mornings and evenings. Plus, of course, you'll offer bags of enthusiasm, a positive attitude and a real hunger to learn.

We're now looking to take on new apprentices in the following Sainsbury's stores:

The scheme lasts between 12 and 18 months – allowing you to progress at your own speed –
and covers everything from stock management and quality standards to selling techniques
and those all-important baking skills. We'll provide all the training materials you need and
you'll have a ‘buddy' on hand to offer advice and act as a sounding board.
Once you've successfully completed each module of the scheme, you'll not only be fully
prepared to work as a Sainsbury's Baker, but you'll also have gained a nationally recognised
qualification (see Qualifications and Rewards to find out more).

Once the scheme has finished, your career with Sainsbury's will just be getting started. As
well as stepping straight into the role of Baker, there's the opportunity to take on a fast track
career path to a supervisory or junior management role. After a few years, you could go on to
lead a team as a Bakery Manager.
